Understanding Bellfabs Boilers

Everything you need to know about Bellfabs steam boilers, water wall furnaces, thermic fluid heaters, fuel options and choosing the right boiler.

What Are Bellfabs Boilers?

Bellfabs is a boiler and pressure vessel manufacturer based at Ranipet in Tamil Nadu, established in 1984, and it states ISO 9001:2015 certification and IBR-approved manufacturing. Its range covers six product families: packaged steam boilers, shell with water wall boilers, Thermbloc hybrid boilers, burner fired boilers, bi-drum water tube boilers and thermic fluid heaters. Together they cover steam from 0.5 TPH to 100 TPH, and Dhyami supplies the range across India and for export.

Shell Boiler or Water Tube Boiler?

In a shell boiler, hot gases pass through tubes surrounded by water inside a large shell. In a water tube boiler, water runs inside the tubes and the hot gases surround them, which suits higher pressure and larger loads. Bellfabs' packaged, shell with water wall, Thermbloc and burner fired boilers are shell designs, while its bi-drum boiler is a water tube design with a steam drum and a mud drum.

What is a Water Wall Membrane Furnace?

A water wall membrane furnace has its walls built from water-cooled panels, so the furnace absorbs radiant heat directly into the water instead of losing it into brickwork. Bellfabs says this reduces refractory needs and helps furnace life. It is used in the Shell With Water Wall, Thermbloc and bi-drum boilers, all of which burn solid fuels.

What Does TPH Mean?

TPH means tonnes of steam per hour, so 1 TPH equals 1000 kg/hr. A 0.5 TPH boiler makes 500 kg of steam an hour, and a 100 TPH boiler makes 1,00,000 kg an hour. Always size a boiler against the total peak steam demand of everything it feeds.

What is IBR Certification?

IBR stands for Indian Boiler Regulations, the safety rules that govern boilers in India. Bellfabs states that its steam boiler families are made to IBR. Its thermic fluid heater page lists "industrial standard design" instead, so Dhyami confirms the standard for your exact model in the quotation. Our full-plant AMC helps keep inspection records in order after installation.

What is a Thermic Fluid Heater?

A thermic fluid heater warms oil in a closed loop and pumps it to the process, so a plant reaches high temperatures at low pressure with no steam system. Bellfabs builds coil type heaters in vertical or horizontal form, with single zone, double zone, auto feed and skid mounted versions. To learn how the fluid works, read our thermic fluid guide.

Steam Boiler or Thermic Fluid Heater?

Choose a steam boiler when your process needs steam itself, such as for pressing, cooking or direct heating. Choose a thermic fluid heater when you need higher temperatures at low pressure, or want to avoid a steam system. Not sure which suits your plant? Our consultancy team can compare both against your load.

How to Choose the Right Bellfabs Boiler

Selecting the correct boiler depends on a few key factors. Use these points as a quick guide:

  • Fuel: wood, briquettes or agro waste point to packaged, shell with water wall or Thermbloc boilers, while furnace oil, diesel, gas or LPG points to a burner fired boiler.
  • Steam demand: add up the peak TPH of all your users, then choose a capacity with some margin above it.
  • Pressure: standard boilers go up to 24 or 32 kg/cm², and the bi-drum water tube boiler goes up to 105 kg/cm².
  • Plant size: very large or high pressure plants of 5 TPH and above suit the bi-drum water tube boiler.
  • Feeding: choose automatic feeding where you want less manual work, and confirm which fuels it supports.
  • Fixed small models: for ready IBR fire tube models of 500 to 5000 kg/hr, see our Hitze Boilers range.

Bellfabs makes six product families: packaged steam boilers, shell with water wall boilers, Thermbloc hybrid boilers, burner fired boilers, bi-drum water tube boilers and thermic fluid heaters. Together they cover steam from 0.5 TPH to 100 TPH. Dhyami supplies the range across India and for export.

Bellfabs steam boilers range from 500 kg/hr (0.5 TPH) up to 100 TPH. Packaged boilers run 0.5 to 8 TPH, Thermbloc 1 to 10 TPH, shell with water wall 1 to 25 TPH, burner fired 0.5 to 25 TPH, and bi-drum water tube 5 to 100 TPH. TPH means tonnes of steam per hour, so 1 TPH equals 1000 kg/hr.

Bellfabs lists working pressure up to 24 kg/cm² for solid fuel packaged boilers, up to 32 kg/cm² for shell with water wall, Thermbloc and burner fired boilers, and up to 105 kg/cm² for bi-drum water tube boilers. Thermic fluid heaters work at atmospheric or low pressure. Ask Dhyami to confirm the pressure for your exact model.

Bellfabs states that its packaged, shell with water wall, Thermbloc, burner fired and bi-drum boilers are made to Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR). For its thermic fluid heaters, Bellfabs lists “industrial standard design” instead of IBR. Dhyami confirms the standard in your quotation.

Bellfabs boilers burn solid, liquid and gas fuels depending on the model. Solid fuel boilers use wood, biomass briquettes, agro waste, coal, wood chips and sawdust. Burner fired boilers use furnace oil, diesel (LDO or HSD), natural gas and LPG. The bi-drum boiler lists nine fuels, including rice husk and bagasse, depending on its combustion system.

In a shell boiler, hot gases pass through tubes surrounded by water inside a large shell. In a water tube boiler, water runs inside the tubes and the hot gases surround them, which suits higher pressure and larger loads. Bellfabs’ bi-drum boiler is a water tube design, and its other steam boilers are shell designs.

A water wall membrane furnace has walls built from water-cooled panels, so the furnace absorbs radiant heat directly into the water. Bellfabs says this reduces refractory needs and helps furnace life. It is used in the shell with water wall, Thermbloc and bi-drum boilers.

A Thermbloc is Bellfabs’ compact hybrid boiler that combines a shell boiler with a water wall membrane furnace, rated 1 to 10 TPH. It is a horizontal, multi-pass, solid fuel boiler with an air pre-heater, ducting, ID fan and FD fan mounted on one frame. It comes with manual or fully automatic fuel feeding.

The burner fired steam boiler suits oil or gas firing, rated 500 kg/hr to 25 TPH at up to 32 kg/cm². It is a horizontal, three-pass, fully wet-back boiler with a monoblock or dual-block burner and fully automatic control. It fires furnace oil, diesel, natural gas or LPG.

For biomass fuels such as wood, briquettes, agro waste and rice husk, look at the packaged (0.5 to 8 TPH), shell with water wall (1 to 25 TPH) and Thermbloc (1 to 10 TPH) boilers. For plants of 5 TPH and above, the bi-drum water tube boiler also burns biomass. Tell Dhyami your fuel and we match the model.

The bi-drum water tube boiler suits large plants, rated 5 to 100 TPH at up to 105 kg/cm². It has a steam drum and a mud drum, a water wall membrane furnace, an economizer and an air preheater. For mid-size loads, the shell with water wall boiler goes up to 25 TPH.

A thermic fluid heater warms heat transfer oil in a closed loop and pumps it to your process, so a plant reaches high temperatures at low pressure with no steam system. Bellfabs builds coil type heaters from 50,000 to 20,00,000 kcal/hr, with operating temperature up to 280 or 300°C. Read our thermic fluid guide for how the fluid works.

Choose a steam boiler when your process needs steam itself, such as for pressing, cooking or direct heating. Choose a thermic fluid heater when you need higher temperatures at low pressure or want to avoid a steam system. Our consultancy team can compare both against your load.

Start with your fuel, then your peak steam demand in TPH, then your working pressure. Add margin above your peak demand rather than choosing the nearest size. Tell Dhyami your fuel, load, pressure, plant location and whether you need IBR, and we confirm the model with Bellfabs before quoting.
